Cleaning Up the Manufacturing Process for Christina May…

< Back to insights

Christina May needed an electrical partner that had complete understanding of control and automation, as well as being able to do the standard electrical work needed like wiring new warehouses, etc. And that’s where we stepped in…

Over 20 years, Christina May has grown to become one of the largest UK soap manufacturers, producing around 4 million bars every year for domestic and international clients and have their own retail brand: The English Soap Company. Their success relies on producing premium soaps using cutting edge technology – with a clear focus on maximising uptime!

If they have a fault, they need it fixed ASAP. So, they need good, local electricians on hand with specialist knowledge and skills.

Their previous electrical contractors were based in Chelmsford – the other side of London! They had all the skills Christina May needed but the arrangement meant 4-hour round trips, long wait times and lost production.

PLC programming, control system design and installation for Soap Manufacturer Christina May

After being let down, Bob, the MD, found us on Google and the rest, as they say, is history.

We were first tasked with a breakdown and once we’d completed that successfully, we were asked to provide control and system integration for a second production line – effectively doubling their output. Then Bob tasked us with manufacturing a full replacement control system for the original line, replacing a very old, very dangerous panel. We designed and manufactured the new panel from the customer’s basic spec that we then transformed into electrical drawings using our SEE Electrical software. The upgrades also include a full safety system installation for both lines.

We were also tasked with integrating a bulk bag handler mixer, a plodder, a cutter, a stamper, and a packing machine that Christina May had bought from various manufacturers. The plodder is an old UK-built extruder and had an old control system that needed replacing, so we installed the full PLC control for the machine in place of the existing panel.

We continue to partner the team at Christina May to ensure they maximise uptime and continuously benefit from continuous improvement in what is a fast-paced and highly competitive industry.
