What We Mean When We Say ‘A Partner You Can Trust’…
Others might say it. We live it. Just ask one of our longest standing customers – MDJ Light Brothers.
We’ve been working with them for more than 14 years. It’s a relationship built on doing what we say we will – plus a little bit more!
We started working with MDJ Light Brothers back in 2009 when we stepped in for their usual electrician. They couldn’t attend a machine breakdown between Christmas and New Year and it turns out that was our in!
So we were attending breakdowns and that quickly escalated to multiple machine and safety upgrades, plus notably a mains distribution project. Right now, we keep an electrician on site at all times to provide day-to-day support.
And they trust us so much, that when they’re buying machinery, they tell the manufacturer to exclude installation. We do it all for them, working with the manufacturers commissioning engineers when needed.
Over the years, as Light Brothers have grown, we’ve grown with them, helping to support and implement a number of big projects:
Frag Machine – Main Motor Upgrade
The Frag machine is Light Brothers key piece of plant, processing light iron from cars and generating around £20k an hour for the business.
It’s a Daneli Shredders machine and Light Brothers needed to upgrade the main motor from 620kW to 700kW.
That meant they also needed a new Variable Speed Drive (VSD) panel. Daneli designed and delivered the new panel, and we disconnected the old one, installing the new one with Daneli’s commissioning engineer. That also involved solving a few last-minute issues that saved the engineer a return trip.
As the Frag machine generates around £20k per hour for Light Brothers, we had to work quickly and efficiently – there was no room for any additional downtime not already factored into the project plan!
We completed the £300k project on schedule and within the 5 day deadline.
Fridge Shredder – Systems Integration
Light Brothers growth plan meant they needed to install a new Fridge Shredder system. This £1 million+ project consisted of a brand-new shredder from Weima, various conveyors and transfer systems, an existing ‘pelletiser’ machine, existing eddy current separator system, and a new RTO (a hazardous gas burning system).
Our Randoll team wired the machine and provided the PLC and HMI control system to run the all the different elements of the plant from one control system. We also installed an automatic infeed to control the flow of fridges into the shredder, removing the need for a crane and crane driver to individually load each fridge.
The system is running optimally and we’ve since carried out several upgrades and additions.
Bano Cable Line and Vertical Mill
In early 2016 and as part of a £1.5 million project, we installed 2 Bano machines that are now a key part of Light Brothers’ non-ferrous processing.
Our role was to install all the cable containment, a new 1250A three phase mains distribution panel, and 1x 800kVA generator and 1x 680kVA generator to feed the new machines, both provided by Perin Generators.
Bano provided the various machine parts and 2 mechanical engineers to physically assemble the machine, which our team then wired. During this part of the process, we identified, reported and rewired several issues with the Italian electrical panels provided.
After 6 weeks of wiring, the commissioning engineer returned to commission the machine and the plant went into production on schedule.
